Michael McCord

In early 1994, Michael McCord combined a naturally entrepreneurial mindset with the values he learned as a young man – from parents whom he describes as "two of the world's finest people" – to create a custom home-building company that was destined to be a success. Michael entered the construction field while still in high school working for an electrical and heat and air contractor. Not long after graduating from East Texas State University, Michael purchased and remodeled his first home and a passion for construction was revealed. Using his knowledge and experience, Michael leaped into the home-building business with both feet in 1994, and "Amber-DiLane Homes" was born.

Those early years were very special to him as he met some of the finest people and "characters" from all over North Texas. From those humble beginnings, he contracted to build homes for so many wonderful people from Athens to Anna, Texas, and everywhere in between. As of the writing of this profile (2023), Amber DiLane Homes, Inc has completed over 600 new custom homes along with a myriad of remodels and add-ons totaling over 300 million in sales!

In the beginning, most of his clients owned property in the country, often in the middle of "nowhere". As he often said, "I Have A Hammer and will Travel" That’s what it took as he says to "cut his teeth" and learn everything he could about home building and working with all types of people. He was single, excited, with lots of nervous energy anxious to put his business "on the map". He was an eager learner (still is) and passionate about taking care of people (again, he still is). In 1997 he married a special woman, Rena Lazaro from Scurry, Texas, and built their first house together on Cedar Creek Lake. That's where they began raising their daughter, Darien Amber, their first beautiful baby. Although Michael has stepped away from the day-to-day operations, his wife Rena has taken charge and the company hasn’t missed a step.

While at Cedar Creek Lake, Michael and Rena fell in love with the water (and each other) and had three more wonderful girls, Tara DiLane, Brooke Anna and Elizabeth Marie. Although he still built homes in the country, there was no doubt Amber-DiLane Homes quickly developed a stellar reputation as the Premier Custom Lake Home Builder with unique designs, attention to detail, and organizational skills not common in the industry.

Michael enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, fishing, snow-skiing, hiking in the mountains of Colorado, and being on the water.
